Overview and Project Objectives
Length: 4-5 pages
Projected Due Date: 11 March 2025
Purpose
The purpose of the semester’s second major project essay is to build on the summary you wrote for the first assignment through conducting some minor research and incorporating that research into your writing. In so doing, you will choose one of the essays we’ll read for this section, conduct some library research, and write a well-developed, 4-5 page paper that makes an argument about an issue and supports it with evidence from your reading and your research.
As such, you will look at essays that respond to others’ ideas by inserting their own ideas and you will learn how to use the They Say/I Say templates in Chapters 4-5 for incorporating your ideas in relation to others’ ideas.
Unit Objectives and Criteria | I will base your grade on how well you do the following:
- To learn how to agree, disagree, or both, in response to others’ arguments.
- To begin to learn the basics of doing research in an academic library.
- To learn the basics of Ciceronian model of arrangement
- To continue applying elements of argumentation.
- Use the templates and suggestions from chapters 4-5 of They Say/I Say.
Additional criteria assumed but now required:
- Author a writer’s memo about your writing process.
- Use of APA style to identify the source text, other texts and in-line references.
